5. VOLUNTEER

Updated August 2023

We have plenty of volunteering opportunities for Adults to develop skills of a different kind within the club, such as:

  • Volunteer Coaching
  • Technical Officials
  • Umpiring
  • Committee Support Roles

Read more about our volunteer roles below.

Young people, under 18, should check out our Junior Academy Volunteering Opportunities including Assistant Coaches - a great opportunity if you're looking for ways to complete your Duke of Edinburgh Award volunteering service.

Volunteer Coaches
Provide support and assistance to our qualified Lead Coaches.

If you're just getting into coaching or doing undergraduate qualification and looking to gain practical experience we'd love to hear from you.

To learn more please speak to our Director of Hockey, Andrew Langlands.

Technical Officials
This is a straightforward role that assists umpires during a match.

Our top teams require a technical official for each of their home games at Bromsgrove Hockey Club. From your designated bench, you will keep time and record the minutes and names of any goal scorers. You will also help to manage player suspensions. Full training will be given.

This is a great chance to be a part of the club and enjoy live action top-level hockey while also providing much needed support in a role that's essential to the club.

Contact our Umpire Coordinator Lauren O'Grady if you're interested.

Club Umpires
Umpiring is a fantastic vocation and Bromsgrove Hockey Club is committed to the development of proficient umpires to officiate our teams at all levels.

You'll become a valued member and be invited to join our dedicated community, the HUB (Hockey Umpires of Bromsgrove), where our wonderful cohort of club umpires support one another sharing feedback and tips.

We have umpires of all ages (12+), some are players themselves or have got into umpiring because of family members. Many haven't even played hockey before.

All that's required is that you're fairly mobile to keep up with play and have the right mindset to succeed in the role.

Speak to our Umpire Development Officer Nick Fielden about getting into umpiring and check out our Umpiring Hub for more resources on getting started here!

Committee Support Roles
Our club is run by its members for its members, and the BHC Committee is made up of both players and non-players who dedicate their spare time to ensuring its success.

While our primary committee representatives are selected at the Annual General Meeting in the Spring ahead of the new season, we are always in need of willing volunteers to help us run initiatives at various stages through the year.

Our sub-committees help with organizing and manning events, liaising with sponsors, investigating funding opportunities or simply performing odd jobs.

If you're keen to get involved please reach out to our Chairman Andrew Wensley.
