2. GETTING STARTED

Updated August 2023

Getting into hockey with Bromsgrove Hockey Club is easy.

To attend a training session with us please email newjunior@bromsgrovehockey.org.uk

Please include the name and DOB of the child/ren and their experience (if applicable).

See our weekly training schedule for all Juniors here.

We welcome children and young people of all abilities. Novices to accomplished hockey players, both out field players and Goal Keepers are welcome.

Our Sunday morning academy is the perfect solution if you're seeking a regular weekend sports-based activity for your child/ren in Bromsgrove. Then our afterschool training sessions on Mondays (Girls) and Tuesdays (Boys) are available to all under 12s and under 14s. From their 13th birthday players can begin the transition into Adults hockey and from 15-18 years of age will train with one of our adults teams based on their ability and experience.

The first session is free to newcomers!

So whether your child is new to hockey or maybe a little unsure about giving it a go - it's still worth coming along to see what we have to offer.

Experienced players are also welcome to try their first session with Bromsgrove free and may like to speak to our coaches about our Player Pathway for developing talent.

We have junior-size sticks available to borrow during training.

For all children under 10 years, we simply ask they wear trainers and clothes they're comfortable running around it. We provide training shirts free of charge once you've registered (See more info below). We do recommend children do not wear their school PE kit to avoid damage.

Our coaches can give advice on picking out gumshields and shin pads as the experience progresses.

For our U12 and U14 age groups, we expect all players to wear gum-shields and shin pads. Young players may also want to think about investing in astro-turf trainers if playing regularly.

Any Goal Keepers can also borrow the equipment we have available while starting out.

All new players are provided a new BHC training t-shirt free of charge upon registering.

Ask our Kit Support Manager Mary if your child has not received theirs.

You can check out our page overview on Buying Club Kit here.

Other BHC Kit for Juniors is available to purchase from our Birmingham-based kit supplier Gogna.

For all matches, either BHC shorts/skorts or black shorts/skort and red socks must be worn.

Then for Worcestershire tournaments a red t-shirt must be worn. And for EH matches/tournaments - BHC reversible tops have to be purchased with an assigned player number (contact our Kit Support Manager to request a number for your child/ren).

After your free taster, we require all players to register and pay the relevant membership charge:
