Strawberries, Amsterdam 2008

During Easter weekend 2008, the Piglets flew to Amsterdam to take part in the Strawberries Hockey Tournament. After a hectic weekend of drinking, camping in snow and playing teams from the far flung corners of Europe (like Edgbaston), the Piglets came home as European Champions... sort of. Piglets won the mixed tournament and have a shiny new trophy for the trophy cabinet... or we would have if "Zut Alors" hadn't trashed it on the Strawberries club dancefloor!

Henley

Each Summer Bromsgrove sends a mixed team to compete at the Henley Hockey Festival, timed to coincide with the climax of the Henley Regatta - usually around the start of July. Teams arrive on a Friday evening for a welcome disco. However, it's a good idea to go easy on the Pimm's, as games start early on Saturday morning!

The games are 8-a-side and are played across the width of the pitch. There are seven 20-minute games to play in the group stages and these are split over Saturday and Sunday.

Bromsgrove Piglets came home as champions in 2005, after beating a British Airways team in the final. Unfortunately, the Piglets haven't been able to repeat this feat since, but it's the taking part that counts. And Pimms.

In 2008, with a little help from the ladies of Worthing Hockey Club courtesy of Vicky Powell, there was enough interest to enter two teams, so the Piglets were joined by Wild Hogs. If you are interested in playing for the Piglets or Wild Hogs at Henley 2009, or for more details speak to Mark Robinson.
